Country #2 has begun…
After a very early start for my flight from Guayaquil i finally made it to Lima! First impressions – it’s a big city with lots going on! You feel the difference straight away… a big busy bustling city with billboards, big brands and lots of cars making a lot of use of their horns! It’s a bit of an assault on your senses!
Anyway – made it to my hostel, and settled in. There are French, English, Americans, Swiss and Kiwis in the hostel currently and a really nice crowd. After a quick discussion, I decided to head straight out to the Museum Larco as the first thing. Why? Well it’s far away from everything else, so a good solo thing to do, but also it’s totally worth seeing according to the guys.
The museum is a privately owned collection of archaeological vases and other pieces from pre inca times. There is jewellery, traditional rites done during birth and death, and hundreds of vases. All pretty impressive to see…
And yes, it’s nice to see, but let’s be honest… it’s not the main reason people go to the museum. Most people go because it houses a pretty large collection of Erotic pottery. And it’s very funny to see! Pottery depicting sex between men and women, between animals, between dead people, and much more! Here are a few of the pots you can see… i love the faces of the people on the pots. Sometimes really happy – other times quite horrified!!!
So this was an interesting introduction to Lima! The evening heralded a crowd of 7 of us from the hostel going out for pizza and cocktails, and then having a few drinks on the terrace of the hostel. I eventually crashed out and went to bed – having got up at 2am the night before for my flight finally caught up with me!
Tomorrow – more sightseeing of this city before joining my G Adventure tour on Saturday!
